The views from Berties are amazing! We love staying here and feel very at home. It is very near to the shop, cafe and pubs. Having a full size freezer is very useful too, especially if my husband catches lots of fish!!

Perfect cottage for a quiet getaway, we loved being on this side of the water - ten mins by ferry to the hustle and bustle of Fowey but loving the location of our cottage; we brought our paddle boards and being so close to the sea plus having access to storage all week was just perfect for us. We really enjoyed our stay at Berties. Such an amazing place, the views were stunning. It is right next to a ships yard so a lot of noise, but we expected as we knew it was there. We had a phenomenal time at Bertie's over the May half term break. The cottage is as close to the water as you can get without falling in, and our kids (4 and 9) spent hours and hours on the quay-side beach. Lounge and, main bedroom were excellent, views from these and location were superb. Location at bottom of steep hill not necessarily for the faint hearted on walk back up to car park, but, worth it. Ideal location for catching ferry and popping over to Fowey.

The ancient fishing village of Polruan lies just across the river from the delightful civil parish of Fowey, a bustling picturesque town packed with quirky coastal shops, art galleries and restaurants. Surrounded by some of the region’s most enchanting countryside, this pair of Cornish cousins have a truly magical feel about them. Polruan, with its steep hill and charming cottages looking down over the pretty harbour, and Fowey with its timeless maritime charm, are linked together by the Fowey Estuary, a haven of colourful sailing and fishing boats dotted about on the water.

A short drive away are the nearby harbours of East and West Looe with their quayside restaurants, sandy beaches and wildlife boat trips. The village of Polperro, with its fascinating smuggling history and horse pulled tram is a must-see and Charlestown, with its huge square sail ships is famously known as the key filming location for the hit TV series, Poldark. Children will love winding their way through the scenic coastal landscape with the Bodmin and Wenford Railway and for those brave enough, there is ample opportunity to hunt down the mysterious beast of Bodmin Moor.

The beautiful capital town of Truro with its magnificent cathedral and wide boulevards is just over an hour away by car and the newly redeveloped St Austell, home to the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan can be reached within forty-five minutes. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside and nature reserves, lakes and rivers, the area boasts some of the best sailing and watersports in the UK. If you are looking for somewhere remote and unspoilt, but with lots to keep you busy, Polruan is the perfect choice.
