Property code: PC009

Situated in this charming Cornish fishing village of Polruan, this traditional cottage is perfect for a coastal family holiday and is less than 200 metres from Polruan Landing where guests can take the passenger ferry to Fowey to experience the bars, restaurants and shops. The starting point for the South West Coast Path can be found at the top of St Saviour’s Hill where you can take in some stunning coastal and countryside scenery and enjoy a walk or a cycle. For a day out, why not drive to Bodinnick where you will find ‘Ferryside’, previously the home of Daphne du Maurier, where she wrote her first book. Further afield there are plenty of places to visit and things to do, why take the brewery tour in St Austell (19 miles) or visit the Eden project and/or the Lost Gardens of Heligan (25 miles).

This traditional cottage is beautifully finished inside and has accommodation spread over three floors. On entering the property, you will find yourself in the welcoming kitchen/diner, which is well equipped with everything you could need for a self-catering stay and there’s plenty of room to both cook and eat with a dining table seating six. The lounge is a bright and cosy space with plenty of seating and a multi fuel stove to cosy up around after a day’s exploring. There’s also a TV if you fancy watching a film or you can admire the fantastic views from the window seat. Upstairs on the first floor are two bedrooms, both beautifully finished with little thoughtful touches and king-size beds. They also have wonderful views of the river and the master bedroom has a wall mounted Smart TV and separate shower room with WC. Up another staircase to the second floor is a very pretty and light twin bedroom, again with waterside views, from which you can access the family bathroom, complete with bath for a relaxing soak.

Stepping outside to the front of the property, which is accessible from the kitchen/diner, there is a terrace with garden furniture and more of those views, making it an ideal spot for some lunch or afternoon tea.

  • 3 bedrooms – 2 kings, 1 twin
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 bathroom with bath, hand-held shower attachment and WC, 1 shower room with WC (please note, the bathroom is accessed via bedroom 3)
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher
  • Washing machine in bathroom
  • Highchair available
  • Multi-fuel stove
  • Smart TV/DVD in sitting room and master bedroom
  • Front terrace with garden views
  • Parking in nearby car parks; you can unload your car in East Street. Parking available on the Quay or St Saviour’s Hill car park (both require payment)
  • Shops, pubs and tidal beach all less than 500m
  • Please note, there are a total 41 steps up to the property and inside the property there is a steep staircase so it may not be suitable for some guests
  • Polruan is a quaint village on a steep hill, so access to some parts of the village can be challenging. Many of the amenities, ferries and cottages in Polruan are accessed via steps/ slopes, some of which can be steep. Please contact us if you have specific requirements.

A lovely cottage, nicely refurbished with nice bathrooms and comfy furniture. Great place to stay, location for town and exploring Fowey was perfect. Cottage was clean and very well maintained. Our 7 year old learned to play chess on the cottage chessboard!

We had the most wonderful weekend at Amelia cottage. The house itself was lovely inside with the most beautiful views - tipped off with the outdoor eating area overlooking the estuary. Sheer bliss! The cottage was very easy to find and access, was lovely and clean and was a very nice place to stay for a few night. The out door sun deck was great to have a glass of wine in the afternoon and watch the estuary, even in the last week of October as its relatively sheltered.

Weve just spent a really wonderful long weekend in Polruan. Amelia Cottage was a perfect base for our family of six to hang out and provided everything we needed - the outside seating area with wonderful views was a real bonus. The elevated position does mean carrying luggage up a number of steps but its well worth the effort.

We loved our stay here. We came with 2 small kids (6&4) and grandparents and all had a great time. We sailed, swam, did crabbing, walked, ate yummy food and had a lovely time. The view from the deck was gorgeous and better than reading a book! Thanks!
