A cosy bolt hole, positioned right down in the heart of the village. Perfect for two people to share and take in the beautiful setting or a family break

This charming cottage, set over three floors is perched conveniently on Quay Hill in an excellent position in the heart of the bustling village just on the edge of the beautiful Fowey harbour with the village café, 2 pubs and local shop on your door step. Polruan still retains all of its original character as a working village with the traditional boatyard nearby which dates back to the Armada. There are extensive views over the estuary across to Fowey. Polruan is steeped in history and benefits from two village pubs and a passenger ferry that will take you across to Fowey which is known as the centre of sailing. Further afield there are plenty of places to visit and things to do, why not visit the tall ships at Charlestown, take the brewery tour in St Austell or visit the Eden project. There are also numerous National Trust sites in Cornwall such as Lanhydrock in Bodmin.

Upon entering the cosy cottage, you will find yourself in the open plan kitchen/dining area, fitted with double oven and ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine and a dining table which can seat up to four guests. From the kitchen, a feature spiral staircase leads down to a king-size bedroom with en-suite shower room, chest of drawers, two bedside cabinets with reading lights and a wardrobe. Meanwhile, on the second floor, you can find the lounge with a feature fireplace and plenty of comfy seating. There is a Smart TV however with the impressive views across the quay to Fowey, you may find that you don’t need it. Conveniently, there is a W/C with hand basin also on the second floor. Through an arched doorway from the lounge, you will find the second bedroom which has two 3' single beds, a chest of drawers and bed side lights. The access to this room is via a small low arched doorway ideally better suited to children but some adults may find it small but cosy.

Although there is no outside space at the cottage, the Coal Wharf  and Polruan Quay is just a stones throw away from the cottage, where there is seating and picnic tables arranged to enjoy the wonderful scenery and activities that the river has to offer. Parking is available near to the cottage alongside the harbour, though this can get busy, and also from the St Saviours and Quay car parks which are further up the hill with the larger of the two car parks situated at the top of the village, approximately 10 minutes walk away; both have electric hook up charging points - Weekly tickets can be purchased for both car parks. there is a village bus available to transport should you wish to use it. feel free to unload outside the property.

  • 2 bedrooms: Ground floor 1 king-size and 2nd floor twin bedroom
  • Sleeps 2+2
  • Please note the head height in twin bedroom is low and care must be taken
  • En-suite shower room on ground floor and separate WC on top floor
  • Double electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine
  • Village Laundrette can be found on the quay
  • Electric and heating included
  • Bed linen and towels included
  • Smart TV
  • Wi-Fi included
  • 1 dog welcome
  • Village bus available to transport up and down the hill if required
  • Babes in arms welcome but regret no children under 5 - due to open spiral staircase and bedrooms being 2 floors apart.
  • Please note that there is an open tread staircase up to the first floor
  • Polruan is a quaint little village situated on a very steep hill, so access to some parts of the village can be challenging.
  • Many of the amenities, ferries and cottages in Polruan are accessed via steps/slopes some of which can be steep. Please contact us if you have specific requirements.
  • There are many small winding streets that are not suitable for cars, therefore many properties in Polruan do not have private parking. However, there is a large pay and display carpark at the top of the village.
  • You are able to park directly outside the cottage for  short time to unload and pick up
  • Parking available in 3 local car parks one of which is located directly across from the cottage along side the harbour, the other two are located at the top and middle of the hill - charges apply
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00 unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

What an amazing location! Close to two pubs and the quay which turns into a small sandy beach at low tide. Ferry to Fowey goes from the key, at most a two minute walk away. Second bedroom was perfect for my two boys. The only bathroom is a very small shower room on the lower floor. Parking is up the hill (I actually lost weight on holiday! And I owRead moree this to the hill). And a bus service runs mid week from the square outside the house. Hide

Lovely, quirky cottage in the heart of Polruan! If you want quiet, this is not the cottage for you, but if you don't mind a little hustle and bustle in the morning (6-7am) with the locals walking past the window to go to the boat yard, you'll be fine! We had a wonderful stay at 1 Quay cottage on East street Polruan. The location was very convenient and we enjoyed easy access to the quay and the pub and ferry etc.. Excellent location and comfortable enough. The kitchen is not well equipped. The car park at the top of the hill is cash only which caught us out. Great location for popping over to Fowey on the ferry :)

Quirky cottage with an amazing view in a perfect location for harbour, beaches and ferry. Weve been to Polruan before and aware of parking issues but managed to get parked the entire time we were there. Id recommend paying for the week and using local transport.

A cosy cottage in heart of the village. Rather basic in terms of kitchen equipment: 100 would be well spent by the owners. Shower is almost scalding, hard to control. Lovely upstairs sitting room with view of harbour and 2 sofas. Parking a nightmare: squeeze into the congested harbour if you're lucky, or a LONG STEEP SLOG up to the town carpark. The ancient fishing village of Polruan lies just across the river from the delightful civil parish of Fowey, a bustling picturesque town packed with quirky coastal shops, art galleries and restaurants. Surrounded by some of the region’s most enchanting countryside, this pair of Cornish cousins have a truly magical feel about them. Polruan, with its steep hill and charming cottages looking down over the pretty harbour, and Fowey with its timeless maritime charm, are linked together by the Fowey Estuary, a haven of colourful sailing and fishing boats dotted about on the water.

A short drive away are the nearby harbours of East and West Looe with their quayside restaurants, sandy beaches and wildlife boat trips. The village of Polperro, with its fascinating smuggling history and horse pulled tram is a must-see and Charlestown, with its huge square sail ships is famously known as the key filming location for the hit TV series, Poldark. Children will love winding their way through the scenic coastal landscape with the Bodmin and Wenford Railway and for those brave enough, there is ample opportunity to hunt down the mysterious beast of Bodmin Moor.

The beautiful capital town of Truro with its magnificent cathedral and wide boulevards is just over an hour away by car and the newly redeveloped St Austell, home to the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan can be reached within forty-five minutes. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside and nature reserves, lakes and rivers, the area boasts some of the best sailing and watersports in the UK. If you are looking for somewhere remote and unspoilt, but with lots to keep you busy, Polruan is the perfect choice.
