Portingales is a lovely property although access is steep and there is no parking immediately outside. Proximity to the town and the river view were a real bonus. The kitchen is well equipped but be prepared to take ALL your catering needs with you. Not even salt and pepper or kitchen roll was provided. No milk on arrival (although a pint & scones Read morecame the next day) & no spare loo rolls. The ones in the bathroom werent even new, but partly used. Such a shame that we didnt feel that welcome. Cannot recommend enough. Exceptionally clean and very well equipped. We enjoyed staying this end of Fowey for a change, watching the more industrial side of the river. We are grateful to be able to rent such a nice property and take our large dog. Throws are provided so the dog can join you on the settees. House was very well set up with everything thought about and in the best of locations. Views of the river and very close access to the public slipway and car parks at the easier access end of town. Shops etc are a 5 min walk with one small steep hill to navigate.

Lovely cottage close to the river - excellent views from both house and garden. Easy access to shops and restaurants in Fowey and the premises were very nicely finished. No parking but car parks close by. Added bonus was a nice garden.

We had a wonderful visit to this very clean and comfortable dog-friendly house: nearby access to the river for canoeing, lovely views through to the river from the house, the front terrace and more extensively from the top garden which is a great sun trap. The kitchen was very well equipped with smart cooker, large fridge etc. The excellent Quay BaRead morekery is 5 minutes walk with a small general store next door to it. Fantastic walks, beaches and water trips nearby so no need to take the car out. Hide

The ancient fishing village of Polruan lies just across the river from the delightful civil parish of Fowey, a bustling picturesque town packed with quirky coastal shops, art galleries and restaurants. Surrounded by some of the region’s most enchanting countryside, this pair of Cornish cousins have a truly magical feel about them. Polruan, with its steep hill and charming cottages looking down over the pretty harbour, and Fowey with its timeless maritime charm, are linked together by the Fowey Estuary, a haven of colourful sailing and fishing boats dotted about on the water.

A short drive away are the nearby harbours of East and West Looe with their quayside restaurants, sandy beaches and wildlife boat trips. The village of Polperro, with its fascinating smuggling history and horse pulled tram is a must-see and Charlestown, with its huge square sail ships is famously known as the key filming location for the hit TV series, Poldark. Children will love winding their way through the scenic coastal landscape with the Bodmin and Wenford Railway and for those brave enough, there is ample opportunity to hunt down the mysterious beast of Bodmin Moor.

The beautiful capital town of Truro with its magnificent cathedral and wide boulevards is just over an hour away by car and the newly redeveloped St Austell, home to the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan can be reached within forty-five minutes. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside and nature reserves, lakes and rivers, the area boasts some of the best sailing and watersports in the UK. If you are looking for somewhere remote and unspoilt, but with lots to keep you busy, Polruan is the perfect choice.
